چکیده

Total hip replacement has consistently been shown to be one of the most reliable and successful surgical procedures in orthopaedic surgery . However time, the longevity of total hip replacement implants may be limited by osteolysis and aseptic loosening regardless of the method of fixation . Osteolysis manifests itself by causing progressive periprosthetic bone resorption secondary to the biological response to particulate wear debris that is generated by the implant. Historically, osteolysis, also referred to as “cement disease”, was considered to be the result of bone resorption secondary to the fragmented cement . Previously published studies, on the other hand, have demonstrated that the periprosthetic osteolytic process stems from a combination of foreign body cellular responses to particulate wear debris. The debris may be generated from the articulating surfaces, fixation surfaces, modular component junctions, or acetabular screws . Particulate wear debris from total hip replacements is predominantly generated by adhesive, abrasive or fatigue mechanisms.

Subconjunctival injection of bevacizumab (avastin) on corneal neovascularization in different rabbit models of corneal angiogenesis.

PURPOSE Bevacizumab is a potent recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody directed against vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic effect of subconjunctival injection of bevacizumab on corneal neovascularization (NV) in different rabbit models. METHODS Several rabbit models of corneal NV were used, including (1) a corneal micropocke...

Occurrence of norovirus infections unrelated to norovirus outbreaks in an asymptomatic food handler population.

Norovirus (NV) is the most common causative agent of nonbacterial gastroenteritis. Reports of surveillance of NV in facilities that reported outbreaks are frequently found in publications, but reports of that in facilities without outbreaks are not found. We investigated the molecular epidemiology of NV isolates derived from asymptomatic food handlers working at a non-outbreak food catering fac...

2 5 A pr 2 01 5 Higher dimensional Thompson groups have subgroups with infinitely many relative ends

The Thompson group V is a subgroup of the homeomorphism group of the Cantor set C. Brin [3] defined higher dimensional Thompson groups nV as generalizations of V . For each n, nV is a subgroup of the homeomorphism group of Cn. We prove that the number of ends of nV is equal to 1, and there is a subgroup of nV such that the relative number of ends is ∞. This is a generalization of the correspond...

A canine-specific anti-nerve growth factor antibody alleviates pain and improves mobility and function in dogs with degenerative joint disease-associated pain

BACKGROUND There is a critical need for proven drugs other than non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for treatment of degenerative joint disease (DJD) pain in dogs. Antibodies against nerve growth factor (NGF) are analgesic in rodent models and in humans with DJD. This pilot study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a novel caninised anti-NGF antibody (NV-01) for the treatment of DJD pain in dog...
